This Beaded Hair Snood Crochet Pattern is an elegant and functional design perfect for creating a delicate and stylish snood, ideal for securing your hair with vintage charm. Using size 10 crochet thread and a size 5 bone crochet hook, this project balances intricate detailing with a soft, draping mesh. The addition of beads offers a decorative touch, while optional looped cord ties provide both practicality and sophistication.

This pattern begins with a foundation of chain stitches that form the structure of the snood, transitioning into rows of chain loops and single crochet to build a light, airy mesh. The gradual adjustment from smaller loops to larger loops ensures a comfortable and secure fit for a variety of hair lengths and textures. Rings and cords are crafted separately, then attached for a seamless finish that makes assembly straightforward yet satisfying.

Optional customization includes substituting lightweight #1 yarn for a slightly different texture and adjusting bead placement for a unique look. Whether you’re creating a vintage-inspired accessory for a special event or a charming everyday piece, this pattern offers versatility and timeless appeal.

Materials:

  • Size 10 crochet thread (the pattern originally used J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen)
  • Bone crochet hook, size 5
  • 90 small beads
  • Optional alternative to double-thread: Use lightweight (#1) yarn. Check gauge and adjust hook size as needed.

Gauge:

  • Ch-5 loops should form a soft and even mesh. Adjust hook size if needed for desired drape.

Instructions:

Snood:

  1. Foundation Chain: Chain 20 loosely.
  2. 1st Row: Sc in the 6th chain from the hook, ch 5, sc in the next chain. Repeat from * across (15 loops). Ch 5, turn.
  3. 2nd and 3rd Rows: Sc in the next loop, ch 5. Repeat from * across (15 loops). Ch 5, turn.
  4. 4th Row: In the next loop, make (sc, ch 1, sc), ch 5. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.
  5. 5th Row: In the next loop, make (sc, ch 5, sc); ch 5, sc in the next loop, ch 1, sc in the same loop. Repeat from * across, ending with (sc, ch 5, sc) in the last loop (15 loops). Ch 5, turn.
  6. 6th–15th Rows: In the next loop, make (sc, ch 1, sc), ch 5. Repeat from * across. Ch 5, turn.
  7. 16th–25th Rows: Repeat as for previous rows but make ch-6 loops instead of ch-5 loops. Ch 6, turn.
  8. 26th Row: Sc in the next loop, ch 3. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
  9. 27th Row: Sc in the next sc, 3 sc in the next loop. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.
  10. 28th and 29th Rows: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
  11. Do not turn at the end of the 29th row. Instead, work a border around the entire snood: Sc in the next loop, ch 1. Repeat from * around. Fasten off.

Rings (Make 2):

  1. Foundation: Ch 12 and join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. 1st Round: Make 20 sc into the ring. Join with a sl st.
  3. 2nd Round: Ch 1, working over the original ring, make 20 sc over the previous round of sc. Fasten off.

Cord:

  1. Divide the remaining thread into 6 equal lengths.
  2. Using the 6 threads together, make a chain 32 inches long. Do not fasten off.
  3. Loop Details: Ch 20, sl st into the 20th ch from the hook (forming a loop). Repeat this step 9 more times for a total of 10 loops. Fasten off.
  4. At the opposite end of the cord, repeat the loop instructions to make 10 loops. Fasten off.

Assembly:

  1. Sew one ring onto each side of the 29th row (at the top edge of the snood).
  2. Thread the cord through both rings and leave the ends for ties.

Beading:

  1. Sew one bead to the center of each chain-20 loop on the cord.
  2. Sew the remaining beads on the snood as desired for embellishment.
