Bow Snood Hair Pattern
Materials:
- Size 10 crochet thread (the pattern originally used J. & P. Coats Knit-Cro-Sheen), 2 balls of any color. Use double thread for this pattern.
- Optional Alternative: Use lightweight (#1) yarn as a substitute for double-threaded #10 crochet thread. Check gauge and adjust the hook size as needed.
- Size 5 pearl cotton thread, 1 ball each of 2 contrasting colors
- Steel crochet hook size 5
- 22 inches of grosgrain ribbon (2 contrasting colors, 1½ inches wide)
- 28 inches of grosgrain ribbon (2 contrasting colors, 1½ inches wide)
- 1 small button
Bow Hair Snood Instructions:
Snood:
Use Double Thread through out unless you are using lightweight #1 yarn.
- Foundation Chain: Ch 75 (18 inches).
- 1st Row: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
- 2nd and 3rd Rows: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1 to turn after the 2nd row, and ch 5 to turn after the 3rd row.
- 4th Row: Sc in the next sc, ch 5. Repeat from * across until 50 loops are made. Ch 5, turn.
- 5th Row: Sc in the next loop, ch 5. Repeat from * across to within the last loop. Omit the last ch-5 and make sc in the last loop (1 loop decreased). Ch 5, turn.
- Shaping: Repeat the 5th row, decreasing 1 loop per row, until 25 loops remain. Fasten off.
Border:
- Attach the double thread to the loop next to the sc rows extending beyond the snood. Sc in the same loop and in each loop around to the sc rows on the opposite side. Ch 1, turn.
- Next Row: Sc in the next sc, work off the next 2 sc as 1 sc (decrease made). Repeat from * across to the beginning of the previous row. Ch 1, turn.
- Following Row: Sc in each sc across.
Extension Piece:
- Without fastening off, ch 3 and work along the starting chain as follows: Sc in the next 10 ch, then work off 2 sc as 1 sc until 10 ch remain, sc in each of the last 10 ch. Fasten off.
- Sew the button to this end of the extension piece. Use the turning ch-3 at the opposite end as a button loop.
Ribbon Bows:
- Make 4 bows with the grosgrain ribbon and sew them evenly across the extension piece.
Ring Trimming (Make 14):
- With Pearl Cotton, ch 6 and join with a sl st to form a ring. Then make 16 sc into the ring. Fasten off.
- With a contrasting color, ch 6, pull the end of the chain through the ring just made and join with a sl st. Make 16 sc into the loop just made. Join and fasten off (a double ring made).
- Sew the rings to the snood as desired.
