This is the easiest beginner crochet dishcloth and it uses just one stitch, the half double crochet. I’ve written before about how I think that the half double crochet (HDC) is the best crochet stitch for beginners, and this dishcloth uses my favorite beginner stitch on repeat.
The pattern is simple, it’s a fast project to crochet and if you’ve never crocheted before this will help you practice your skills.
Not to mention that everyone needs dishcloths or washcloths which means these crochet dishcloths make excellent gifts. Especially if you make a set and tie them up really cute with a ribbon.
The written instructions are down below, but you can also watch my video below for a step by step demonstration.
For this project you will need:
- Yarn – I’m using Peaches and Cream Stripey in the color “Energetic Pink”
- Crochet hook – I’m using a size H/8 5.00 mm
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
Easiest Beginner Crochet Dishcloth Instructions
- Start by making a chain of 22 stitches. You can add more chains to make the dishcloth bigger or add fewer to make it smaller.
- After you make your chain, start your first half double crochet in the second chain from the hook. Remember that the loop on the hook does not count as a chain.
- Continue making a half double crochet in every chain down the row. When you reach the end, chain two and turn your work.
- Starting with the first stitch, begin your new row of half double crochet stitches. Chain 2 at the end of every row before you turn your work.
- Once you have 15 rows, chain one, pull the yarn through the loop and cut the yarn. Then work the tail of the yarn into your work. Work the tail of the beginning yarn through your work too. And that’s it!
