Materials

Special Stitches
Star Stitch:
Row 1:
- Ch 3, yarn over, insert the hook into the second chain from the hook, and pull through.
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the same stitch as the last one made, and pull through.
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the next stitch, and pull through.
- Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook. Ch 1 to close the star and form an “eye.”
Row 2 and Onward:
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the “eye” of the star just made, and pull through.
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the same stitch as the last one made, and pull through.
- Yarn over, insert the hook into the next “eye,” and pull through.
- Yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook. Ch 1 to close the star.
To Increase: Insert the hook into the loop before the eye as well as the eye itself. Avoid increasing directly over previous increases for even shaping.
Pattern
Hat
- Foundation Chain: Ch 20 and join with a slip stitch (sl st) to form a ring.
- Rows 1–3: SC in each stitch around. Ch 1, turn after each row.
- Rows 4–38: SC in each stitch of the previous row, making 2 increases evenly spaced in each row.
- Row 39: Work as Row 1 of the Star Stitch.
- Rows 40–42: Continue in Star Stitch, making 3 increases evenly spaced in each row.
- Rows 43–49: Continue in Star Stitch, making 4 increases evenly spaced in each row.
- Rows 50–58: Work in Star Stitch without any increases.
- Row 59: SC twice in each “eye” of the previous row.
- Rows 60–63: SC in each stitch of the previous row. Fasten off.
Tassel
- Attach Gimp to the foundation chain at the top of the hat.
- Make a chain of your desired tassel length, then slip stitch into the next stitch of the foundation chain.
- Repeat from * around the foundation chain to create the tassel. Fasten off.
