Pattern

Shell Stitch Panels (Make 2)

  1. Foundation Chain: Ch 72.

  4. Row 3: Work 6 TRCs into the SC from the previous row, SC in the center of the next shell. Repeat from * to the end, finishing with 6 TRCs in the last SC. Ch 2, turn.
  5. Rows 4–21: Alternate Row 2 and Row 3. The completed piece should measure approximately 5½ inches in depth.
  6. Make the second panel to match. Join both panels together with SL STs on the wrong side.

Borders

  1. Foundation Chain: Ch 74.
  2. Row 1: SC in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn.
  3. Rows 2–10: SC in each stitch, working over the wire for added structure. Ch 1, turn.
  4. Row 11: SC in the first 8 stitches. Ch 1, turn.
  5. Rows 12 and Onward: SC in each stitch, working back and forth until the border measures 12½ inches in length. End off.
  6. Make a second border to match. Join both borders together with SL STs on the wrong side.
  7. Sew the shell stitch panel inside the completed border.

Gussets (Make 2)

  1. Foundation Chain: Ch 15.
  2. Row 1: SC in the second chain from the hook and in each chain across. Ch 1, turn.
  3. Rows 2 and Onward: SC in each stitch until the gusset measures 5¼ inches in length.
  4. Last 4 Rows: SC across, decreasing 1 stitch at the beginning and end of each row. End off.
  5. Attach gussets to the sides of the shell stitch panels with SCs on the right side.
