Motifs
- First Motif:
- Work exactly as for the Tatted Compact Case motif, completing Round 1. Tie and cut the thread.
- Second Motif:
- Work the motif as before, but join it to the center picot of any chain of the previous motif during Round 1. Tie and cut the thread.
- Third Motif:
- Work as for the Second Motif, joining it to the center picot of the chain directly opposite the joining of the Second Motif to the First Motif.
Joining and Edging
- Round 2:
- Tie ball and shuttle threads together and attach to the chain at the base of the first ring of the First Motif, following the motif joinings.
- (Chain of 2 ds, 3 picots separated by 2 ds, 2 ds, join to the center picot of the next chain of the previous round of the motif. Chain of 2 ds, 3 picots separated by 2 ds, 2 ds, join to the chain at the base of the next ring.) Repeat this sequence around each motif.
- Chains connecting the motifs should include a chain of 3 ds, joined to the center picot of the adjacent chain on the next motif.
- Continue working as described until all motifs are interconnected. Tie and cut thread.
Assembly
- Cut a 2 x 5-inch piece of felt. Lay the completed tatted motifs onto the felt, centering them neatly.
- Sew the tatted piece to the felt, trimming away any excess felt and rounding the corners as shown.
- Decorate the tatting with rhinestones, attaching them symmetrically for a polished look.
- Cut another felt piece of the same size and shape. Buttonhole stitch the edges of both felt pieces together, leaving one side open to hold the comb securely.
