Experimenting with Watercolor Pencils and Watercolor.

TV Girl by Tiffany Bliss.

Sometimes you just want to experiment and that’s what I did when I painted “TV Girl”.

Originally I was just going to use watercolor paints but then I remembered seeing artists like Jess Karp and Bailey Jae using colored pencils in some of their pieces and decided to give it a try.

I think colored pencils give paintings a unique and interesting look that really works when it’s done right. Obviously, I’m still learning and still have a long way to go before I’m as good as the artists I mentioned above. But, I really enjoyed experimenting all the same.

One thing that struck me as kind of magical is how the work transformed the longer I worked the pencils. The ugly stage that all artwork goes through lasted a lot longer with this piece. I think it was because I was using the watercolor pencils. This stage lasted so long that I started thinking, “Oh no, I’ve ruined it…this is never going to work…” But I kept going. And I’m glad I did, because in the end, I really like how she turned out 🙂

I’m still working on creating a digital version of this piece. I really made her to add to YouTube as a “Thank you for Watching” graphic. But then, I decided it would be fun to try painting her too. So here we are.
