Easiest Beginner Crochet Fingerless Gloves – Easy Beginner Crochet Pattern FREE

These crochet fingerless gloves are easy to make and a great easy beginner crochet project if you’re just learning how to crochet.

We’re going to use one stitch repeated through out the whole project: the half double crochet. This is my favorite stitch for beginner projects. It’s a good compromise betwen the single crochet stitch, which takes longer to work up and the double crochet, which is fast but doesn’t offer a lot of coverage and can look pretty sparse.

So let’s get started!

For this project you’ll need:

  1. 1 ball of Yarn (size 4 worsted weight) I used Red Heart Super Saver in the color “Stillwater Pooling” which is about 236 yards. I used almost the whole ball.
  2. Crochet Hook (I used a 5.5 mm or size I)
  3. Yarn needle
  4. scissors
  5. stitch markers (check out my article on stitch markers)

We’ll start by making a chain of 41 stitches.

Once you finish making your chain, yarn over, skip one stitch and make your first half double crochet. Continue making half double crochets in each stitch down the row until you get to the end.

When you get to the end, chain 1 and turn your work.

To give these fingerless gloves a ribbed texture, we’re going to only be working in the back loop to make our next row. So the next step is to skip the first loop and work a half double crochet into the back part of the next stitch. From now on you’ll half double crochet into every back loop until you come to the end of the row. Then you’ll chain 1, turn your work and repeat until you have 20 rows.

Eventually you’ll have a rectangle!

Measure 14 cm from the edge of your work (where your last loop is) down your row and use a stitch marker to mark the stitch. Fold your rectangle in half long ways and we’re going to slip stitch up to that marker.

Once you reach the marker, thread your yarn needle and stitch back down the seam to make sure the seam is extra secure.

Once that’s finished, go to the other end and stitch up 4 cm from the edge. I like to stitch from the edge down and then back up again to make sure that the stitches are very secure.

And that’s it! Now repeat all of these steps for your other glove and you have a pair of fingerless gloves that will keep you warm! And, it goes without saying, these gloves make a lovely gift.
